Most Veterans were playing the Donnybrook course this week with a field of 145 players. Margaret River Men’s Champion 2016 Jim House came in on tenth place overall – great effort.
The 9 hole stableford on home ground was won by Terry Halsall (18), Richard Deshon scored 17 points for second place by just beating Jim Taylor on a count back.
The women enjoyed the scenic views from the Augusta Golf Course this week as it was their turn to host the Margaret River Golf Shop’s 4BBB annual event, proudly won by Judy Anderson and Barbara Webster with 41 points.
Jan Macaulay was way ahead of the rest of the field in the 9 hole stableford scoring 19 points, 6 more than Mary Taylor who came second on a count back from June Home.
The Brothers of the Brush Men’s scroungers stableford was played in good conditions.
Gary Wightman was in form to score top man (38) followed by Augusta visitor Joe Italiano (36).
Rob Young scored one point less for third place on a count back from Daniel Hunt.
Matthew O’Farrell won the Mixed 9 holes par event with a score of +1, just getting the better off Terry Haywood.
Shirley Becker came in as first woman and third overall with -2 on a count back from Gerard McCabe.
The Fennessy’s Holden men’s 18 hole event had to battle it out in a large field.
Andrew Host was top gun and just pushed Sean Howard to second place, both scoring 39 points. Daniel Hunt received third prize (38).
The golf day was followed by a successful Swing night with live music for the Gatsby Gala featuring Michelle Spriggs, The Concert Band, Doxy and Tony Barugh.
The Clubhouse was decorated in Great Gatsby Style, everyone had made a great effort in dressing up for the event and there was plenty of dancing including a demo from the Swing community.
Internationally recognized Deb “Spoons” Perry, who played the drums, gave everyone a taste of her amazing talent in playing the spoons.
But the week was not over yet. The Home Timber and Hardware Mixed foursomes 36 holes championships were teeing off early in the morning for this honour board event, smoothly run by relief Club Captain Dave Glasson.
Penny Foy and Nick Liebenberg successfully defended their title scoring 159 points in total.
Maggi Foy and Mike Skivinis got awarded the runner up prize with 169 points.
Gary Wightman teamed up with Roz Cummings (who is fairly new to golf) to take home first prize as Nett winners (146).
Ladies Champion Sarah Roddy and Dave Goodall came close runner up with only one point less.
