Jazz singer Catherine Summers will bring a touch of Hollywood vintage to Chandeliers on Abbey this Sunday evening for Jazz by the Bay.
Summers will perform with her six-piece orchestra and take guests back to the golden years of Hollywood musicals with her husky tones and music by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day.
“The quality and class of the evening will have the recipe of fun upbeat swing and possibly a sing-along, toe-tapping and a bit of history,” she said.
“It was a time when songs were written for musicals and movies, they were songs that were written for Hollywood but they were also jazz standards.
“There is a lot of hidden beauty in jazz song’s lyrics and melody, and the arrangements I put together are not over complicated, it is just a real beautiful respect of songs.”
Hailing from the UK, it wasn’t until Summers moved to WA that she took up singing professionally and thought this was a place where anything was possible.
Since then she has made a successful career from singing selling-out shows at Perth’s International Fringe World Festival, Ellington Jazz Club and high profile events.
“People have really responded to my music and who I am on stage, I am very grounded and down to earth,” she said.
The theatre-style performance at Chandeliers on Abbey will include a drink on arrival and a cash bar and food will be available throughout the evening.
Doors open at 6pm, tickets to the event are $55 and available from stickytickets.com.au/51334.
