Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino used an address in Canberra’s parliament house on Wednesday to congratulate the South West Football League women’s side on their victory against Peel Football and Netball League.
Last week, the SWFLW defeated PFNLW 21.9.135 to 0.1.1 at Mandurah’s Rushton Park.
Mrs Marino, a passionate football fan and former President of the Harvey Bulls Football Club, told the government it was wonderful to see history being made.
“This inspires countless young girls to play what is the best game in the world,” she said.
“We saw some amazingly great skills from these women footballers, playing really great quality football.”
The chief government whip made special mention of Bethany Bond and Trish Lake who kicked eight goals and six goals respectively.
She also praised coach Teegan Smith who “has done a fantastic job guiding the side to their first ever win in this type of competition”.
For the first time this year the SWFL have run a women’s competition with six of the clubs fielding a side.
The local women’s competition continues this weekend with Busselton hosting HBL and Carey Park hosting South Bunbury.
