An early goal to Grant Evans was the perfect start for the Margaret River men’s hockey team.
Ian Currell slotted the second goal in after Evans attacked strongly down the right wing, and this was followed by another right-hand side build up initiated by Brynley Jenkins and finished off by Conor Callow.
The next goal saw Archie Currell unselfishly pass off to Evans in the goal circle who was in the perfect position to make it count.
The fifth goal in the first half came again from Callow to bring up his second goal, and to give Margaret River a 5-0 lead going into the half-time break.
Countrys scored the first goal in the second half after Peter Wright had made a great save, however the rebound went straight to a Country’s attacker who scored.
Michael James added to Margaret River’s total soon after with a fine field goal.
Wright, who played a sensational game in goals, came off injured following a penalty corner and was replaced by Ian Currell who put on the helmet in the last few minutes of the match.
Despite Margaret River having most of the play, Countrys pegged back two more goals in the late stages of the match to salvage some pride from their 6-3 loss.
Best players were Jenkins, Wright and Evans.
Clint Gartrell was also worthy of a mention as he defended extremely well and had a great game. Likewise, Callow’s contribution was outstanding.
Next week’s match is on Friday night at 6:30 pm against Wests.
With the way Margaret River have been tearing opponents apart in the last couple of games, the encounter with Wests should be a ripper!
