A shark advice was issued for Boranup Beach south of Margaret River on Tuesday following the discovery of a whale carcass.
The whale carcass was reported by Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions at 8:52am and is believed to be situated on the beach approximately 2.7 kilometres north of the Hamelin Bay Boat ramp.
The officers received a report late on Monday afternoon from beach users in the area.
The warning issued by Shark Smart advised the decomposing carcass may bring sharks closer to shore, increasing the risk to swimmers and surfers.
Beachgoers are urged to take additional caution in the Boranup Beach area and surrounding areas, and to adhere to any beach closures.
Members of the public are asked to report any shark sightings to the Water Police on 9442 8600.
