On Friday night the Year 9-12 Margaret River boys hockey team stunned ladder leaders Cavaliers, holding them to nil all at half-time.
Unfortunately the Margaret River side were not able to continue the form into the second half, when the girls, Asha and Chloe Altmann and Tess and Kate Mann had to leave to prepare for their own game directly after the boys’ game.
Goal keeper Conor Callow was outstanding in the net deflecting numerous shots on goal.
In the second half Cavaliers managed to find the back of the net on three occasions, all through well worked pieces of play going their way.
For his efforts Callow was awarded the Riverfresh IGA player of the match and attracted the attention of the umpires scoring 3 votes.
The remaining umpiring votes were awarded to Blake Smith for his strong play in the mid field and Archie Currell for his solid defence.
The team welcomed Year 6-8 team members, Henry Gorta and Darcy Currell.
Both boys showed that they have the skill to play at this level of competition and will no doubt we called on to play again this season.
This Friday night the boys take on Capel at 5pm. Anyone interested in giving hockey a go is encouraged to contact Jeanette Smith on 0488 066 072.
