The visually stunning interactive theatre performance, Saltbush, kept Margaret River audiences enthralled at the Cultural Centre this week, including representatives from the Undalup Association and South West elders who took a moment to chat to the cast and crew ahead of the show.
Students from local schools also took part in the performances, which utilised on-stage seating and a giant, interactive projection which followed the story of two friends of different Aboriginal backgrounds, discovering the land region by region, and story by story.
Adults and children alike were captivated by the ethereal voices and dance of the performers, who were equally as talented weaving their audiences seamlessly into the act, guiding participants on and off the stage at various intervals to chase lilypads, dodge traffic and play almost silently under a star-filled night sky.
While cleverly demonstrating the deep and important connections between people and the land, as well as cultural diversity and tolerance, the creators and performers of Saltbush managed to leave a small horde of children virtually speechless, and at least one country journalist wishing she was young enough to hang out under that glittering sky for just a while.
