The Margaret River Montessori School will host their Great Book Swap Fundraiser next week, in support of Indigenous Literacy Day.
“We value the importance of having new and exciting literature available to all kids, of all ages and in all parts of the world,” said Principal Lisa Fenton.
“Everyone brings in any preloved children's books you have gathering dust with a gold coin donation and then children will be allowed to swap their book. Every child will be able to take one book home.
All funds raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and used to purchase books for remote communities.
A small range of new books will also be on sale for gold coin donations and Ms Fenton encouraged students to bring along a few extra coins to purchase books which catch their eye.
“We can make a difference in making books available to indigenous communities while igniting the love of books in our own school community,” Ms Fenton said.
The school will also celebrate Book Week with a Teacher Swap Story Time next Friday, where teachers will swap classes and read story to their “new” class.
“This is a great way for kids to get to know the other teachers and enjoy a new story,” Ms Fenton said.
“And then in tradition of previous years we will have our all time favourite event, ‘Dress as Your Favourite Book Character’, also on the Friday.”
The Margaret River Montessori School Great Book Swap will be held Wednesday August 23. For more info contact 08 9757 2564.
