School holidays are upon us, and while the parents of school-aged children are ready to pull their hair in horror over what to do with the little darlings the next two weeks - don't fret, Perth has a lot more to offer than the Royal Show.
Northbridge Plaza
The City of Perth is hosting a variety of events throughout the school holidays including a silent disco, Hip Hop song writing classes, breakdance and hip hop classes, make your own slime, paint your own pet rock and more.

Awesome Arts Festival
Also hosted by the City of Perth, Awesome Arts Festival continues to be a school holiday favourite. With over 30 events covering theatre, puppetry, circus, book launches and workshops there is a genre to suit everyone! The Awesome Arts website includes an easy-to-read schedule, either by age or by genre. The challenge will be deciding which event (or events!) to participate in.
Workshed Mosaics
The popular school holiday mosaic course for children is held in one three-hour session at their Floreat location.
Artistic, fun and creative, your child will complete a mosaic ready to take home and hang on the wall.
Children will create and piece their mosaic from a huge range of pre-cut coloured tiles, glass and mirror in a supervised environment.
The mosaic piece will be grouted and affixed with a hook ready to show off to friends and family. All materials are provided and a snack and drink is included for morning or afternoon tea.
Children work on tables in groups of six with a qualified teacher. All their teachers hold a valid "Working With Children" registration.
ArtSpace Collective
The ArtSpace in Scarborough is becoming a school holiday must-do destination with a variety of workshops on offer.
Try - A Very Arty Day - This workshop allows children to try their hand at a number of different art activities including drawing, painting, weaving and sculpting.
Pom Pom Initial - Decorate super-sized letters complete with pom-poms and create a gorgeous decoration to take home.
A Bug's Life - Create a colourful framed artwork with hand painted grass to feature your buggy creation.
Screen Printing on T-shirts - a super cool workshop using traditional screen printing techniques. From design, composing and positioning the image of the T-shirt, children also learn about shapes using tangrams and patterns.
Creative Photography - the perfect workshop for any child with an interest in photography, either wanting to improve their skills or explore their creativity through the lens. Includes tips on camera functions, lighting, composition, subject choice and so much more.
Thought Challengers program - A two day program designed around building resilient kids and how to benefit and learn from making mistakes. Children will explore the art of being and thinking like a Mistake Maker with creative projects including sculpting and painting.
Kids Nature Club
Exploring the outdoors, climbing trees, building forts, playing games and taking bug hunting to another level. This is an all day activity with two different age groups: Six to12 or four to eight allowing similar aged children a safe and fun play environment.
Enchanted Children's High Tea
Fremantle's Enchanted Children's High Tea at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle is on Wednesday, 27th September. Delicious treats, story time and dancing with the Freedom Fairies.
STEMmates have four school holiday programs
Forensics: a fun and interactive project-oriented course of crime scene investigating.
Robotics: aimed at catering to the rising demand for innovators, thinkers and problem solvers. Build and program a robot and develop teamwork and problem solving skills.
Electromagnets: Exploring electricity and magnetism and examining the effect of increasing current and inquiry-based investigations.
Oceanography: Exploring the influence of engineering, technology and science on society and the natural world.
Trees Adventures
WA's first tree ropes course in Dwellingup has over 80 challenges and 20 flying foxes, including a lower course for the 4-7 age group.
