The Augusta Golf Club lady members invited past members to join them last Wednesday afternoon to congratulate our new Club Champion for 2017, Jill Perkins, with a special afternoon tea.
Perkins won with a gross score of 282 over the 72 holes competition closely followed by Wendy Wilson on 283.
The overall Nett winner was Joyce Challis with 219 with runner-up Kerry Borgas on 226.
Veteran Senior Gross was Norah Johnson on gross 288.
The event was a success with 17 ladies participating in perfect weather and winding up the event with the final round on the Sunday in conjunction with the Men’s final round.
An enjoyable evening followed with much camaraderie and good humour.
It was a busy weekend at the club which started off with the Busselton Bottle ‘n’ Brew stableford for the men, where a good field slugged it out for the trophies.
Three players carded 40 points with Dave Shephard taking the win after count backs from runner up Trevor Rogers and Struan Smith third.
Best gross was taken out by Graeme Challis. Nearest the pins went to Brian Bowden, Jim Swarbrick, Nick Dornan and Tom Payne.
It was the Hadley Day on the Sunday where a large contingent of players turned up to either play a mixed Canadian or a single men’s stableford.
The Canadian saw the mixed pairs specialist team of Jim and Shirley Swarbrick take out the prize with a very commendable nett 67 from runners up Pat Cunningham and Wendy Wilson not far behind with 68&3/8, third place went to Trevor Buller and Norah Johnson with 69&5/8.
It was Shad Nixon who returned to form to take out the men’s single stableford with 40 from runner up Brian Bowden with 38 and Tom Payne third with 36.
Nearest the pins went to No.2 Norah Johnson and Barry Brown, No.6 Nick Dornan and Lyan Shephard, No.11 Trevor Buller, and Graeme Challis & Shirley Swarbrick No.18.
The game was followed by some fine food provided by the Hadleys and some great fellowship again.
There is a fixture change for next weekend with no organised golf on the Saturday because of the AFL Grand Final and the Sunday is now a mixed stroke game with hidden partners sponsored by Lyan and David Shephard which also incorporates the Monthly Mug for the men.
Don’t forget that the Elders Mixed Ambrose 4’s is on this Friday 10.30 for an 11am start.
