A little bit of history…
I was born here in the Shire and have lived here for all my life except for 13 years in Perth from 1969 – when there was little hope of future down here.
Since I returned I have been involved in the Cowaramup Bushfire Brigade (36 years), was President of the Cowaramup PC for a number of years, and was involved in junior and senior football and cricket. I Have been on the Sport and Recreation and Bushfires committees for more than 25 years.
I currently employ 12 people, have taken on towards 20 apprentices over the years and have been involved with the local High School with Structured Workplace Learning for over 25 years.
I’m running in this year’s election…
I have a good understanding of the community and try very hard to represent everyone in our community, and to provide a balanced, common sense approach to council and local government.
I would love to be around as a Councillor to see the Cultural Centre upgrade completed.
On issues currently affecting the Shire…
We have a rapidly growing population, because it is such a nice place to live.
There are plenty of places to spend the shires rates and a challenge is ensuring they are spent in the correct places.
Rural roads need some more investment, more cycleways and walkways are needed, with more care taken for the environment as we develop and grow.
The Shire will face future challenges…
Government funding reductions and cost-shifting will be a big problem for Council in the future.
Ratepayers get used to a service and once that service is withdrawn, there is pressure on Council to pick it up.
Life as a councillor…
There is a heavy workload for Councillors, particularly in the position of Shire President.
I have been very happy to get out and about and meet so many great residents, it’s one of the best parts of the job.
My favourite thing about living in the Shire…
A swim in Cowaramup Bay on a balmy autumn afternoon.
