A little bit of history…
I have lived in Margaret River with my family for 30 years and am a small business owner. I have served as GM of the local tourism association, past president of the Margaret River Chamber and a teacher at the Margaret River Primary School.
I have had the opportunity to sit on the Board of Tourism Australia and chair several local, tourism and regional development bodies at the state and regional level. Currently I am a member of Amnesty International Margaret River and serve on the Board of Arts Margaret River.
I’m running in this year’s election…
because I believe Council makes decisions that effect our everyday lives. I would like to be part of that decision making to ensure the interests of our community are represented.
On issues currently affecting the Shire…
the current challenges are many: supporting and encouraging investment in small business throughout the shire - locally owned businesses that reflect our character and identity and provide meaningful jobs for young people and families to support and educate their children; maintaining and upgrading road reserves with a focus on the needs of farming communities; keeping rates down; delivering community facilities and services – ensuring we are investing in our children’s future; attracting state and federal government support to help us transit to a greener economy; preserving our coastline, creeks, rivers, caves eco-system and natural landscape and achieving these goals on a relatively small rate base.
The Shire will face future challenges…
As our community grows, the shire will face challenges in ensuring that the needs of the community are listened to, that processes are inclusive of all interests groups and that there is balance in decision making. Balance underpins a democratic community.
Life as a councillor…
I am envisaging life will be busy. However, I know I would enjoy the opportunity to serve our community and would hope to make a positive and constructive contribution.
My favourite thing about living in the Shire…
I am lucky enough to have the best walk track in the world right outside my front gate where I can immerse myself in the most beautiful natural landscape.
