The annual Margaret River Lions Club Mega Garage Sale will be held at the Club’s Burton Street shed location this weekend, aimed at raising funds for a worthy charity.
After supporting a number of national charities and raising tens of thousands for good causes around Australia, Club President Brian Prendergast said it was time to focus on a local charity.
“River Angels provides very important support to local families experiencing the incredibly tough journey through cancer diagnosis and treatment,” Mr Prendergast said.
“We are very proud to once again be hosting this big garage sale and hope to have another successful event on Saturday.”
Members of the Lions and River Angels supporters were at the shed earlier this week, preparing the masses of donated items for sale ahead of the weekend.
“We are proud to say this community supports our fundraising efforts and all that the Lions Club does so we expect another fantastic expression of that support this year,” Mr Prendergast said.
“Young people, older people, male and female, mums and dads and grandparents – cancer really affects all of us in some way and funding our local support groups goes hand in hand with what the Lions are all about.”
River Angels coordinator Lynda Donovan said the group relied heavily on community support and donations.
“Sales like this one with the Lions means so much to us and to the people we help,” she said.
“We focus on providing grass-roots care to local families dealing with cancer and that takes many forms, from food drops to cleaning, gardening, and general care for our fellow community members.
“It really is friends helping friends, and we are very grateful to have the Lions supporting us. In a practical sense it will represent a lot of assistance.”
Head to the Margaret River Lions Shed on Burton Road from 8.30am to 12.30pm this Saturday October 21 to support the sale, buy a sausage sizzle and grab some bargains.
