Margaret River’s Knee Deep Wines is celebrating a run of success at the The West Australian Good Food Guide Awards for 2017, where relatively-new-to-the-team head chef Baxter Newstead claimed the title of Regional Chef of the Year.
According to Knee Deep’s Brendan Evans, the win was even more of a surprise given that Newstead had started at the venue this year.
“The awards were an amazing success for Knee Deep,” Mr Evans said.
“As well as Baxter’s award, the restaurant was also rated number four in Western Australia. Making these achievements even more remarkable is that Baxter only joined the team in January.”
Newstead accepted his award in person, acknowledging the dedicated Knee Deep team who, according to Mr Evans, have worked tirelessly to meet the chef’s exacting standards.
“Baxter also mentioned how thankful he was for the lifestyle opportunities that our region offers,” he said.
Knee Deep owner Dr Phillip Childs paid tribute to Baxter’s commitment and his ability to create a team of such quality in such a short period of time.
