Hand-made digging sticks will be a feature of the Margaret River Independent School’s Year 3 students’ upcoming TourGuiding Night next month.
The sticks were carved out of peppermint trees under the guidance of Josh Whiteland as part of the school’s Wardandi Mentor Program.
The sticks are traditionally used for digging, or warding off snakes.
Students at the school are busy practicing their tour talks, and will use the sticks – which they will paint next week – as props during the December 7 night tour.
Parents are invited to join the guided walking along the Nyindamurra Trail, and to enjoy a barbecue following the tour.
A mindfulness colouring-in map created by the Year 3 students with help from renowned children’s illustrator, Coral Tulloch will be on sale on the night. The map is also available now from the MRIS office for $2.
