Cowaramup Primary School students recently spent the day remembering and acknowledging the tragic loss of lives in Gracetown on September 27, 1996.
On that day, five adults and four children were killed in a cliff collapse at Huzza's during a rainstorm, as a surf competition between Margaret River and Cowaramup primary schools took place.
Each year the primary school holds 'Buddy Day', where students from kindergarten to Year 6 take part in a range of activities with siblings and friends.
"It was so much fun, and it was great to see the students enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities and have a few laughs," said Year5/6 teacher Leesa Mathers.
"At lunch time the teachers and Year 6 students played the inaugural netball game, with the teachers successfully taking the honours.
"The weather was beautiful, and it was great to see all the students barracking hard on the sidelines.
Ms Mathers thanked the P&C and parent volunteers for a delicious sausage sizzle, and said the day was a great way to see out the end of term.
