THE month of the moustache has started and the Margaret River Recreation Centre has jumped on board to support the now infamous national men’s health fundraising initiative, Movember.
Responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on hundreds of local men’s faces, Movember aims raise vital funds and awareness for prostate cancer and depression.
Margaret River Recreation Centre staff have started a team called ‘Mos in Margs’ and aim to raise money by planning fun activities for clients, hosting competitions and by placing collection tins at the Centre and in Shire Offices.
Margaret River Recreation Centre Fitness Instructor Chris McCormack said it is great to be able to contribute to the cause.
“We have organised a special dress-up day competition on Friday 23 November,” she said.
“People can donate to dress like ‘a man with a mo’ for any of the Recreation Centre classes that day and go into a draw to win prizes.”
Ms McCormack said both men and women can participate in the fundraising activities and urged as many people as possible to get involved.
“This is such a great cause to get behind,” she said.
“It’s a lot of fun and laughs and at the end of the month the money raised goes towards promoting better health for our fathers, sons, husbands, brothers, uncles newphews and mates.”
All donations received will be submitted via the Movember website under the name Mos for Margs.
