Principal Wendy Roediger called for volunteers from the MRIS community, as well as from the wider community to assist with the screening.
"Statistics show that 80 percent of learning is processed through the eyes, so vision problems can have a profound effect on a child's confidence and development," she said.
"This is a great opportunity to assist with this comprehensive sight screening initiative."
The program calls on community members to offer their time to help with the screening, which involves a 30-minute online induction followed by a 90-minute induction.
It is estimated 1 in 5 Australian children have undetected vision problems.
Screening of consenting Year 3 and Year 6 students is free of charge.
