ANYONE wanting to donate to the Margaret River Bushfire Appeal can now do so through the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
The fund was set up for bushfire victims by Perth’s Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and is now in effect.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and donations to the appeal can be made in the following ways.
Transport company helps out
A local transport company will be taking donations of food and clothing from people in Busselton and Bunbury to those affected by the bushfires in Margaret River, this Saturday.
Veolia Transport WA General Manager Lisa Shreeve said donations of food and clothing can be put onto two South West Coach Lines vehicles for a 'Stuff the Bus' appeal in Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River this Saturday.
The coaches will be parked at Mitchell Park in Queen Street Busselton and in front of the Bunbury Visitor Centre near Centrepoint from 9am to 12 noon, before departing to drive to drop off the donations in Margaret River that day.
They will also stop at Darby Park Serviced Apartments in Margaret River to collect more goods before being dropped off at the Margaret River Cultural Centre.
Veolia Transport WA General Manager Lisa Shreeve said staff had been very concerned about the people who lost everything in the fires and wanted to do something to contribute.
“Many of our customers live in this area - we have regulars that are friends and so we want to do as much as we can to help them in their time of need,”she said.
Goods should be non-perishable and clothing can include blankets, towels, sheets etc.

Cold Chisel fundraiser
THE organisers of tomorrow night’s Cold Chisel concert are turning it into a major fundraiser for victims of the Margaret River bushfire.
Grant Brinklow from Sandalford Wines said he had been speaking with with Cold Chisel’s management and Zachariah Events and they were hopeful the concert could “raise a lot of money” for those affected.
“We’re strongly encouraging people to be generous and bring a pocket full of gold coins to donate,” he said.
“On the night there will be 100 volunteers who will be conducting a can shake.
“There will also be a memorabilia auction, which will include a number of items from Cold Chisel including a signed fender guitar.
“It’s an opportunity to raise some desperately needed funds for those who have lost everything in the fires.”
