THE recent Margaret River Farmers Market ‘Year of the Farmer’ photo competition held at the Margaret River Community Resource Centre attracted many stunning images with three entrants taking home a prize.
Peter Dury won first place with his image titled Who’s Next, depicting the legs and udders of cows being milked at 5am at the dairy where Two Fat Cows have their ice-cream business.
“I titled it Who’s Next, though others have called it Udderly Smelly!” Peter said.
Dunja Molony won second with her image Vintage in Croatia, featuring a pair of shoes, while third place went to Helen Rosevear for her Cowtown image, showing cows and a streaky, blue sky.
Helen said, “The photo was taken on a farm in Cowaramup.
“I thought [it] captured the essence of the year of the farmer.
“It so happened when I took the shot, the clouds were going crazy and producing some awesome skies.”
Judges included Russell Ord from Margaret River and Paul Stojanovic from Perth.
Event organiser Katrina Lombardo said,“I was so pleased with the turn out of entries they were all so different. The images were stunning.
“Having talked with the photographers, they all seemed to really enjoy the process of meeting the farmers and then photographing them so I am very pleased that it was an enjoyable project for them all.”
Katrina notified people that the Farmers Market will run from 8am as usual at the centre on Saturday; however it will be positioned slightly different this time, with stalls set up from the soup kitchen through to the farmhouse and all around the egg shed area.
Katrina said the handmade market will occupy the usual quadrangle area instead.
