JACOB Willcox has returned triumphant from Nicar agua after being named the U16 world surfing champion.
The 15-year-old local competed in the 2013 Dakine World Junior Surfing Championship and in the finals took on Leonardo Fioravanti of Italy, Jake Marshall of the US and Reo Inaba of Japan.
He beat them all with a score of 14.90 and some impressive man oeu vres. "Glad I could bring it home!" Willcox posted on Face book with enthusiasm yesterday.
The ISA World Juniors are report edly the equivalent of the Olympics Games, with 30 countries and 300 of the best surfers competing.
Willcox's win takes him a step closer to his dreams of participating in the world surfing tour.
