A COLLECTIVE of teenage Margaret River musicians have all been recognised in the annual high school band competition run by radio station Triple J.
Each year the national youth broadcaster goes on the hunt for Australia's best unsigned high school band through the Unearthed High competition. Four acts from the region, which all feature members who attend Margaret River Senior High School, entered the competition and had some success in the competition.
Classic metal revivalists Tartarus reached the number two position on the Unearthed metal charts and will be playing Perth's Scorcher Fest in December.
Indie popsters The Acitones, led by twins Isabella and Isaac Andrews, had their music played around the country on Triple J and reached the top 100 in Unearthed High. Guitarist Isaac Andrews said all their friends were awestruck when the song was played on the radio.
Connor Aitken-Lombardo's group Honeymaker also entered the competition, as did Koenski, the moniker for solo electronic producer Koen Smailes.
Margaret River Senior High School arts teacher Mem McCormack said the school had a strong musical history.
"The music program fosters school bands and individual musicians with an extensive ensemble program and loads of opportunities for rock bands to rehearse and perform," Ms McCormack said.
