NUMEROUS businesses took a lion's share of titles at the Margaret River Region Business Awards on Thursday, impressively winning more than one category.
The lucky lot included The Larder, winning the ANZ Business Excellence and the WARSBA 0-4 Employees awards; Southern Skydivers, with the Tourism Excellence, WARSBA 5-10 Employees, and Small Business Development Corporation of the Year awards; and Morries Anytime, which took the Shire of Augusta Margaret River $2000 Industry Development Prize and Large Business of the Year award as well as the WARSBA 11-20 Employees award.
Leeuwin Estate's Denis Horgan won special mention as he was presented the Outstand ing Contribution by an Individual award. The new category celebrates an individual who has made a significant and long-standing contribution to tourism and local industry in the Margaret River Region.
AMRTA chief executive Pip Close said the association was delighted to sponsor the category and to see the award go to a well-deserved recipient.
"Denis and the Horgan family's ongoing contribution, passion and support for wine and food tourism in in the Margaret River Region is exceptional, including the successful initiation and management of 30 wonderful years of Leeuwin Concerts, plus their support of arts and culture in the region," Ms Close said.
Jarrah Grove Retreat also did well, winning the WARSBA Homebased Business award.
The cocktail-style event was a hit as businesses, finalists and winners enjoyed celebrating at Aravina Estate.
