AUSTRALIAN surfer Josh Kerr won the prize for best wipe-out of the day at the Margaret River Pro surfing competition on Wednesday but in a post-surf interview, he seemed to be angling more for the title of honey badger of the surfing world.
For the uninitiated, surfing lingo is hard to decipher under the best circumstances, but 31-year-old Kerr delivered some truly baffling turns of phrase that made "grouse" and "gnarly" seem like the common tongue.
Tour communications manager Will Hayden-Smith thankfully translated Kerr's comments for Fairfax Media.
SURFER CJ Hobgood owes a friend a beer after he snapped one of Kelly Slater's surfboards.
Slater lent Hobgood a board after the American's board caddie failed to arrive at The Box before the surfer's heat began.
But things ended badly when Hodgood wiped out on a 10-foot-wave and the board broke.
Thankfully, eleven-times world champion Slater wasn't too peeved.
"I've got two clubs to hit him over the head with now," Slater joked with reporters.
"That's the risk you take. CJ's a good buddy of mine, I've got a few back-up boards.
"But it (the board) was right in that six-foot range, kind of what we want for The Box.
"I might have to call back to my place on the Gold Coast. I've got a friend coming over, he might have one or two more for me."
