THE nimble-fingered Margaret River High School Senior Guitar Ensemble received an outstanding commendation at the Perth International Guitar Festival on August 24.
The year 9, 11 and 12 students competed against 59 other ensembles, including one from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
They performed a challenging program, with the pieces Gypsy Journey, London Trio and Livewire.
In recognition of their skill they received a certificate and CD.
During their trip to Perth, the students also had a workshop with other guitar students at Shenton College, with MRSHS’s Garance Camison saying it was the first time she had seen other classical guitarists her own age.
They also enjoyed a classical guitar concert by international performers Zoo Duo at WAAPA.
“It was a very successful and tuneful weekend,” guitar teacher Bruce Godden said.
