Three young riders from the Margaret River Senior High School Equestrian team will represent the school at one of the biggest events on the state’s equestrian calendar this weekend.
Local riders spent the early part of 2017 frantically qualifying for the 2017 Equestrian WA Interschools Competition, and trio Jessica Ridley, Keeley Dittmar and Lauryn Hall have spent the last eight weeks travelling around the state for qualifying events.
The competition will see over 70 schools represented and over 200 horse and rider combinations.
Riders will travel from as far as Esperance and Geraldton for four days of competition at the State Equestrian Center in Brigadoon, covering disciplines such as show horse, show jumping and dressage.
On Sunday April 2, the three young Margaret River riders capped off their qualifying events with a preparation event hosted by the Busselton Horse and Pony Club.
According to MRSHS Equestrian team’s Sharyne Alberts, months of hard work from the girls has paid off.
“Jessica Ridley won her preliminary and was second in her novice class, while Lauryn Hall and Keeley Dittmar were competing in hotly contested divisions with less than two per cent separating first and third places,” she said. “Lauryn won both classes, closely followed by Keeley in third place in two very close rounds.
“The school is very proud to support these three dedicated girls at the upcoming event.”
