Margaret River went down 6-2 to Wests in the A2 men’s hockey competition.
The game started well in the opening ten minutes with Margaret River in constant attack, but against play Wests scored.
From that point onwards, Margaret River’s play completely changed with too much reliance on the long hit, and some rather questionable umpiring decisions which saw our players caught-out waiting for the free hits that just weren’t given.
Wests scored three more goals in the first half to open a strong 4-0 lead at the break.
The second half started with a deluge of rain which forced Margaret River to make greater use of the short ball, and things were looking good when Ben Van-Overdijk finished off an impressive passage of attack with a goal.
The rain continued and both teams slogged it out on the flooded turf.
Wests added to their score midway through the half, and this was quickly pegged back when Jason Arblaster scored.
Wests added yet another goal near the end of the match to run out convincing winners.
The next game is against Countrys on Saturday, May 20 at 1:30 pm.
