Approximately 2000 local residents have provided feedback to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River about their visions and priorities for the future, to help draft Council’s key planning document the Community Strategic Plan 2036.
Feedback for the plan was contributed by residents by way of completing online surveys, participating in working groups, a high school excursion to the Shire, and the Family Dinner Project, where primary school students took home questionnaires for completion with their family during evening meal time.
Shire Community and Corporate Planner Stacey Hutt said she was pleased local residents chose to share their views, with feedback results echoing the sustainable and environmental focus of the previously drafted 20-year plan.
“There was a consensus in the community that a strong focus should be placed on initiatives that prevented climate change, improved waste management and increased the use of renewable energy,” she said.
“It was also evident that community members wanted a greater opportunity to participate in Council decision-making, more opportunities for local youth, continued support for small businesses and encouragement and assistance for volunteering.”
Ms Hutt thanked all who took time to provide their views, especially the 36 community members appointed to the Shire ‘Your 2036 Super Group’ which met five times to have more detailed discussions about the plan.
“Thank you to everyone who was involved in this enormous project,” she said.
“Every piece of the feedback received has been recorded and will be considered in the updating of this critical document.”
The draft Community Strategic Plan for 2036 is expected to be presented to Council and the community in August 2017.
