The Margaret River men’s hockey team lost out to a more determined Countrys, going down 2-0 in Busselton.
With just one fixtured game remaining the River will end the season in third position, foregoing the sought after double chance in the finals.
Countrys applied the pressure right from the start making it very difficult for the defence.
Margaret River struggled to get any forward momentum going, while Countrys scored twice.
The second half saw more positive ball movement from Margaret River, but still they were not able to penetrate the Countrys’ defence.
Understandably, defenders featured in the best players with Brendan Slaven, Brynley Jenkins and Brad Yates getting the votes.
Steve Noakes put in a big effort in goals, while Blake Smith played with tenacity with his reading of the play and his back tackling being a feature.
Next week is a bye, with Margaret River’s next game against Capel on Saturday 26 August at 6:00 pm.
