Australia’s summer staple of cricket is just around the corner and with that too is the Margaret River Hawks Cricket Club season, launching their #futurehawks social media campaign this week.
Training has been underway for the past three weeks and with record numbers on the track, the 2017/18 season is looking to be a beauty. With the arrival of the club’s two imports imminent and some new players arriving in town, president James Gannaway is excited about the future.
“We are looking really good numbers-wise, however we are always looking for more players,” he said. “Any ability is welcomed and we have all gear available to use. FIFO workers are encouraged and the club is welcoming families to the club as we strive to make the Hawks known as the family club.”
The club has made recent upgrades to their nets and boasts three quality grounds, a clubhouse and the newest training facilities in the league. “There isn’t a better place to play cricket in the association now,” Gannaway said.
The Hawks are gearing up for a big month before the season. “This Saturday we are hosting the Bunnings sausage sizzle, then we’ll then head to the football club to watch a few Hawks battle it out against the AMRZons footy team in a River Angels fundraiser from 4pm.
The following weekend the club hosts Sorrento, Duncraig and Fremantle cricket clubs in a weekend of scratch matches. Gannaway said the club’s nets and shed projects should be completed in coming weeks before the season starts on October 14 and encouraged locals to embrace the #futurehawks campaign.
“There are a couple of ‘insta-frames’ floating around town so if you see one, jump in the frame and take a photo, then upload to our Facebook page with the hashtag,” he said. A signed Perth Scorchers shirt is up for grabs as well as a monthly dinner voucher from the Margaret River Hotel and a monthly beer giveaway from Bootleg Brewery.
The club is calling for local businesses keen to join the campaign to contact James Gannaway on 0408 899 994 or by visiting www.facebook.com/margaretriverhawkscricketclub
