B Grade
Margaret River Hawks B- grade side ( 9/235 ) defeated St Mary’s (10/192).
The decision to bat first for the Hawks proved to be a great one. Although opener Jude Shinnick was dismissed early for 7, it brought Grant Garstone to the crease who belted the St Mary’s attack for 69 runs off 45 balls, and was accompanied by Sam Leigh who played with great class to contribute 24 off 72 and played a great role in his 90 run partner ship with Garstone. Kade Dittmar(39) and Jordan Stanbury(42) both contributed greatly to the hefty Hawks total, but then a flurry of quick wickets was steadied by the Hawks captain Maurice Shinnick and Mason Beecham who added a further 27 for the 10th wicket which set the Saints 235 to win.
Opening bower Jordan Stanbury was again brilliant at the start of the bowling innings snagging a first over wicket, but then runs started flowing for the Saints batsmen T.Hartnett made a classy 50 but was later bowled by Aiden Robins. Then Saints batsmen D.La Motte blasted a quick 63 which brought some nerves to the Hawks side, but was later removed by a great catch on the boundary from K.Dittmar coming from the bowling of captain Maurice Shinnick. The Saints again steadied but then Peter Crimp bowled beautifully at the death (3/4 of 2.2 overs) to end the Saints innings and seal the win for the Hawks.

What an interesting match in Augusta on Saturday. Hawks were heading south determined for a win. Augusta were hosting and keen for a match after a last minute win by forfeit the week before. Winning the toss, Augusta had no hesitation in batting first on a lush ground.
Fourteen year old Angus Currell opened the bowling for the Hawks with Mitch Broun and it was the youngster getting the first wicket of the day. Tyson Warnke caught by Ellie Hopkins for 6. One Warnke departs, one Warnke arrives as Braden joined Feenan at the crease and immediately upped the ante.
When Feenan was caught by Currell off Michael Earl, Augusta were 2 for 52 and looking comfortable. Braden Warnke hit out but was bowled by Earl for a match high 37 with Augusta 3 for 69. This is where Hawks gained control of the game with Earl dismissing Bradshaw, Halliwell and Warnke before catching Law to dismiss Augusta for 91. Cody Robson finished with 3 overs, 1 for 1, Darcy Currell 3 overs 1 for 8 and Angus Currell 1 for 17 from 4; while Earl was the standout with 5 for 26 from 8 overs.
Normally, 92 runs would be easy run chase but the Augusta team were adamant on victory. Hopkins was dismissed for 9 with the score on 14 before Aeodhan Bailey was out for 3. When Broun, (0) and Robson, (9), were dismissed, Hawks were shaky at 4 for 42. Earl hit a quick 13 but was dismissed with the Hawks reeling at 5 for 64. 12 year old Darcy Bailey looked solid against the quality attack of Braden Warnke but a brilliant catch by youngster Muir put paid to a comeback. When skipper Lawrence was dismissed for a duck, and Angus and Darcy Currell followed suit, Hawks were dismissed for 71 in a miraculous Augusta win.

U15s MR 9/87 v YOBS 9/72
Sometimes our boys amaze me. Yobs won the toss and decided to bowl first. Wickets fell faster than ducks at a shooting range, and we even had our own ducks. By drinks (15 overs) we where 8/44. Euan Murray had retired with 12 runs (highest of the match at this stage) and was straight back in along with Angus Currell. Euan and Angus where determined they weren’t going down without a fight.
They both fought to protect their wickets and Euan hit his first 6 of the season. These 2 literally doubled our score bringing it to 9/87. Euan (28) Angus(19) great partnership. One thing about the boys, they didn’t give up, they knew they had to keep their bowling tight.
No wickets taken in the first few overs but they where keeping the runs low. After running out Kai Spowart (one of Yobs best players) their confidence grew. At drinks Yobs where 5/53, they still had some work to do. By the 23rd over yobs where all out 9/72. Wickets taken C. Flintoff (1/4 of 2) M. Jones (2/6 of 4) K.Dittemar (1/14 of 4) H. Gorta (2/8 of 2) A.Kupfer-Hollis (1/11 of 2) E.Murray (2/5 of 2).
One person stood out today, normally we don’t pick a man of the match but the whole team agreed it had to go to Euan Murray who played a brilliant game overall.
U11s MR Green vs. YOBS White
Under cloudy skies at M/River primary school the boys won the toss and elected to bat first. Light drizzle fell for most of the innings, causing a slow outfield and a damp scorebook. Consistent batting and smart running between wickets saw the Margaret River team finish their 20 overs with 4/120, with standout performances from Oscar (not out for 22, with 3 fours) and Leroy (not out for 10), with improved batting by Josh Y (not out for 11) and Culann (12 runs, 1 four).
In the modified T20 format all batters retire after 17 balls. The rain cleared and the wind picked up for the YOBS innings. The Margaret River boys fielded very well with two catches behind the wickets from Josh F and a brilliant catch from Lachie at deep point. Solid bowling from Arkie saw him deliver his first maiden over, followed by a wicket maiden. Determined fielding and accurate throws resulted in a run out, and kept YOBS to 5/88 after their 20 over.
After bonus runs were added the score was Margaret River Green 4/140 defeating YOBS White 5/104. Thank you to YOBS for the shelter, parents who helped out at the game, and well done boys for another great effort.
