Charlie’s Christmas cheer lights up Brookfield neighbourhood

Brookfield resident Charlie Seberry has completed this year’s Christmas lights display at his family home in Margaret River, and is keen to invite the community to visit and check out his efforts.

“He started working on this in November, and has been dedicated to creating this beautiful display all on his own,” said mum Jacki Connew.

“Mum makes me wear a helmet when I’m on the ladder and attaching stuff to the roof,” Charlie said as he explained the different elements of his front yard decorations.

“We had some reindeer that used to move and they weren’t working this year, so I took them apart and re-jigged them so that they still light up and look good,” he said.

Ms Connew explained that Charlie’s love of electronics and a keen desire to understand “how things work” led to his interest in decorating the house, particularly after dad Mark Seberry handed over the reins to the young local.

“We are so proud of him, he has worked exceptionally hard and I find it hard to stop buying lights and decorations now, knowing how much he puts into it.”

Charlie, who is in Year 6 at Margaret River Primary School, said he enjoyed watching people drive and walk past the Christmas lights each year.

“It’s fun too because other neighbours have joined in and more and more houses have lights on the street now.”

Neighbour Lauren said she had been decorating her house for a few years and had been inspired by Charlie to get even more creative this year.

“Yes we’ve definitely added some more lights and inflatable figurines this year, Charlie is doing such an amazing job across the road and we wanted to join in the celebration with him.”

Charlie’s Christmas Lights display will feature on Bottlebrush Ave in Brookfield between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

Residents of Lilac Link in Riverslea are also gearing up to host their annual Christmas Fundraiser for River Angels this weekend, where games, face painting, raffles, an ice cream van and the possibility of a surprise visit from Santa Claus will be on offer from 5.30pm this Saturday December 9.
