Margaret River Community Centre (MRCC) has received a $1000 grant for homelessness action, thanks to local coffee drinkers.
Two Margaret River cafes joined 762 other cafes around Australia earlier this year for CafeSmart, an initiative of StreetSmart, which promotes action to end homelessness.
On August 4, cafes donated $1 from every coffee sold and encouraged customers to also chip in for the cause.
Drift Café and Yahava Koffee Works Margaret River have been part of the Cafesmart initiative for the past three years.
“Like Gaye and the team from Drift, we get involved because it is a way to get funds directly allocated to our local community” said Jade O’Shea, Manager at Yahava KoffeeWorks.
Thanks to the community involvement in CafeSmart, the Margaret River Community Centre has received the grant from StreetSmart which will be used to assist people experiencing homelessness in Margaret River.
“Margaret River’s coffee drinkers really got behind Drift and Yahava’s efforts again this year. We are very grateful for their support and look forward to more cafes joining the CafeSmart event in 2018,” said Sally Hays, Chairperson of the MRCC.
“More cafes participating will mean more Margaret River groups can apply for grants.”Jade O’Shea, Manager at Yahava KoffeeWorks Margaret River
