Margaret River summer theatre school is on song for holidays

Just three places remain open in the newly-established Margaret River Youth Musical Theatre Summer Program, at the Outloud Dance Academy on Station Road.

The five week program begins on January 20 and runs every Saturday morning until February 17 from 10am until 12.00pm.

Co-ordinator Sarah Mills said the short course offered an opportunity for boys and girls aged 7 to 12 years to experience the fun and expression of musical theatre in a comfortable and supportive environment.

“The program aims to build self esteem, confidence and knowledge of the stage, whether students want to be in the spotlight or work behind the scenes,” she said.

Together with fellow coach Fran Gronow, Mills hopes to instill the basics of theatre production and advance their love of the stage as they work to produce a short pantomime.

“The pantomime is based on Disney’s The Jungle Book, and will be produced in April; this course will offer the introduction to being a part of a show, as well as a lot of the fun involved in putting on a pantomime!”

The experienced theatre instructor – with many years spent at theatre schools in her native United Kingdom – said the program had been overwhelmingly popular with local families.

“We’ve had heaps of children sign on already which is fantastic, and at this stage we do only have three more places left,” she said.

“It’s a really good place for kids to come along and have some active, creative fun on a Saturday morning and to make new friends across a wide range of ages.”

The Outloud Dance Academy Youth Musical Theatre Summer Program runs from Saturday January 20 to Saturday February 17, with classes held from 10.00am to 12.00pm each Saturday morning at 25 Station Road, Margaret River.

The five week program costs $180.00 per child and includes morning tea during each class. Bookings are essential, contact 0403 822 634 or visit www.outlouddance.com.au
