Have you ever thought you would like to sing? Paint? Swim?
Perhaps you have a hankering to discover the many walking trails around your own backyard, or learn to identify birds and plants?
The Margaret River chapter of the University of the 3rd Age (U3A) is launching its next semester of courses, offering students the chance to learn a new skill, discover more about history, music, literature or develop their own creative passion.
U3A’s Peta Goodwin said the organisation allowed members to enrol in as many courses as they wish, with an annual membership fee and small course fees making it easy for people to learn something new.
“Members also get to enjoy monthly special events and an annual party as part of their membership,” she said.
“As well as our long-serving tutors and their always popular courses we have some new presenters on board this year with some very exciting new subjects and skills.”
Claire Johnson, long-term local resident and teacher at Margaret River Senior High School will be sharing her love of contemporary Australian writing and leading an in-depth discussion on the topic.
Jo Mayo, a talented musician and artist who has recently moved to town is offering ‘Singalong for Fun’, for those who fancy exercising their vocal chords without feeling any pressure to be good at it.
Another new resident, Daniela Palitos is a qualified Art Historian who hails from Portugal.
Ms Palitos will be looking at five famous European artists from different periods, the influences that shaped them and how their art in turn influenced later painters and sculptors.
Semester 1 classes start in March and enrolment opens on February 16, online via www.u3amr.org.au or in person at the office in Room 2 at the Community Resource Centre on Tunbridge Street between 10am and 12 noon.
