The Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s Bushfire Welfare Support Trailer has received a boost with a $2000 donation from IGA Margaret River.
The donation will go towards stocking, equipping and maintenance of the trailer.
The trailer travels with crews to most bushfire incidents and can act as both an Incident Control Centre for managing agencies, and/or a rest and refreshment station for firefighters.
Shire of Augusta Margaret River Community Emergency Services Manager Chris Lloyd thanked IGA for their generous contribution and said it would benefit all shire firefighters and members of partner agencies.
“The welfare trailer lives at Wallcliffe Fire Station but is available for use by all 10 of the Shire’s brigades, during local incidents, controlled burns and can be deployed to assist crews responding to incidents in neighbouring communities.” he said.
“The running cost of the trailer are covered by the Shire however, its capability and service levels are constantly improving due to the brigades receiving very generous community donations.”
“We are absolutely chuffed to receive this support from IGA.
“Not only will the funding be put to great use, but it is a great morale booster to know that our brigade members are being thought of a valued by the local community.”
Mr Lloyd specifically thanked IGA owner Debbie O’Connor for the donation, and IGA staff Peter Harker and Kathryn Godridge who presented the cheque to support trailer managers Gail Montgomery, Don Montgomery and Barb Allen.
Expenditure of the donation will be decided between all the brigades at an upcoming Bush Fire Brigade Executive meeting.
