Parents of three-year-old Alby Davis have expressed their gratitude for the “outpouring of love” they’ve received since their son tragically died on Monday.
Anna, Alby’s mum, shared a beautiful photo of her son on Instagram.
“Yesterday (Monday) afternoon, our beautiful, beautiful Alby, our darling baby boy, grew wings and flew from this earth,” the Instagram post said.
”Minutes pass like hours and the gaping hole in our lives and hearts is completely incomprehensible.”
Social media posts say Alby was playing with some presents that had arrived for his fourth birthday party, and choked to death on a small ball.
The Coroner’s Office confirmed it had begun investigating the death of a child on Tasmania’s North-West Coast on Monday.
“As the matter is ongoing, no further information can be released at this stage,” a spokesperson said on Thursday.
On Wednesday night Anna shared another photo of Alby, it was taken 40 minutes before he was to take his final breath in her arms.
“No words could ever express the depths of our gratitude for the outpouring of love we have received since our worst nightmare became our daily reality,” the post said.
“During this time of immense grief, your thoughts, prayers, sympathy and tears have enveloped and uplifted us, and we could never thank you enough for your overwhelming generosity and support.”
A gofundme page was created by Amber Cooper, to support Alby’s parents Anna and Simon.
By late Thursday more than 4100 people had donated $123,109 in the previous day, for a $100,000 goal. The goal was originally $40,000. By Friday morning more than $190,000 had been raised by 6405 people.
The Gofundme page said Mr Davis was a relief teacher Mrs Davis ran an online business, The Small Folk.
Alby is survived by his two siblings, Sage and Acre.
