Screen industry professionals, emerging creatives and writers are being called to submit their concepts for drama series, features, shorts, animation, interactive and gaming ahead of this year’s Emergence Creative Festival in Margaret River.
The new initiative is dubbed ‘Generation Content’ and aims to shortlist a number of entrants for interactive workshops throughout the festival.
Finalists will collaborate with established screen mentors at the festival to develop and pitch their creative ideas with the aim of generating more Western Australian-made content.
Event director Erin Molloy said the opportunity would allow creative concepts to become more than just ideas for a distant future.
“We really urge anyone that’s been sitting on an idea for a series, feature or anything of the like to take this opportunity to get it in-front of key stakeholders and mentors,” she said.
“Emergence brings some incredible minds from around Australia and the globe to WA so this is a fantastic opportunity for local talent to develop their craft, pitch their ideas, broaden their network and potentially further their careers.”
The program is a collaboration between the South West Development Commission, Screenwest, Turner International and Regional Development Australia.
Entrants are invited to provide a one-pager outlining their concept for drama series, features, shorts, animation, interactive and gaming.
Festival mentors and potential collaborators include Jungle Entertainment’s COO Chloe Rickard, Foxtel’s Head of Drama Development Carly Heaton, Screenwest’s Scripted Executive Matthew Horrocks, Turner International’s Glenn Bartlett and Glenn Urqhuart (ex-Foxtel).
A number of industry professionals such as Chris Veerhuis, John Fairhead, Ned McNeilage, James Bogel, Sue Taylor and Amanda Morrison will also be mentoring.
Screenwest chief executive Seph McKenna said the program had the potential to generate some impressive content.
“Generation Content is a unique opportunity that will provide emerging creatives with hands-on experience developing a WA story with the face-to-face guidance of industry professionals,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to what ideas are brought to life.”
