What are you doing for dinner this Wednesday and Thursday night?
The Margaret River Hockey Club will join forces with the town’s Domino’s Pizza store this week to help raise funds to cover the costs incurred by the club over the season.
“We’re very very grateful for the support from Domino’s, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve,” Club President Colin Fox told the Mail.
“We heard about the last fundraiser they helped out with for River Angels and we thought it was a great way for people to help us out.”
The hockey club is the only major sporting club in the Shire without training and gameday facilities, and with most facilities currently shared by more than one sport, Mr Fox said the teams had no choice but to travel to Busselton to compete.
“We’re lucky that despite the logistical issues, we have a very strong playing base and new players joining up each season.
“We have to work very hard to make sure everyone can get to and from training and games, and there are people who help with driving the bus up to Busselton and back.”
Mr Fox said when a driver is not available, the teams must find the funds to pay to hire one, or miss important games.
“It’s definitely a costly exercise at times and we are always searching for ways to save our funds, so to be able to generate some to back us up as we head into the new season is very important.”
Domino’s Margaret River Franchisee Rajvir Pandher said the store was keen to support charities and community groups in the region.
“We strongly believe in giving back to the locals and supporting the community we work within,” she said.
