A busy weekend last month saw the Rotary Club of Margaret River host a Conference for 400 Rotary delegates featuring presenters such as Peter Kenyon, Marcus Stafford AM, Dr Bruce Robinson, Fred Chaney AO and many others.
The Conference, held at Stay Margaret River, required the installation of a marquee to accommodate the high number of delegates.
Rotary President, Maxine Patmore, said the Rotary Club asked the Margaret River Senior High School Emergency Service Cadet Corps to give up their Saturday afternoon and assist in converting the marquee from its conference-style, used during the day, to a hall fit for a banquet.
Mrs Patmore said the cadets, a leader, and two instructors, worked solidly for two hours, converting the marquee.
“Their work ethic and willingness to volunteer for a community event was demonstrated to Conference delegates from Perth to Esperance, and was a fine example of the way in which the community of Margaret River works together,” she said.
Cadet leader Wendy Coffey said 30 of the 55 cadets were able to assist Rotary.
“The cadets have assisted Rotary in the past by manning water stations at the annual fun runs and they are happy to give back to Margaret River Rotary which in turn supports the High School and the community,” she said.
Ms Coffey said the cadets also work with the local Margaret River fire brigades and the State Emergency Service.
The cadets will also march in Wednesday’s ANZAC Day parade through Margaret River and act as flag bearers during the morning’s memorial service.
