Youngsters looking to get out and enjoy the thrill of a fun bike ride this ANZAC Day will be hard pressed to find a more exciting afternoon than the Margaret River Off-Road Cycling Association’s Junior Mountain Bike Enduro race.
The race will be held on Wednesday afternoon in the newly named Woodjidup National Park (formerly Bramley National Park) in the Pines precinct to the North of Margaret River.
Open to all school aged children with a free sausage sizzle thrown in courtesy of Home Hardware Margaret River, the relatively new format of downhill racing has been a popular addition to the MRORCA calendar.
“The downhills are timed, but the uphills are taken at a social, leisurely pace,” explained a MRORCA spokesperson.
“We ran a series of these events for all club members over the summer months, also getting the Dunsborough mountain bike clubs involved and creating some friendly rivalry and a great social atmosphere.
“There will be two timed runs down different trails and the winner in each age group will have the fastest combined time.
“If you’ve heard of the these trails -often referred to as Compartment 10- this is the perfect opportunity to come out and check them out.
“In the interest of safety, we will be insisting that under 7’s are accompanied by a parent on the trails, and that there is one parent to every three kids.”
The training ground has seen plenty of medals on the podium in the WA Gravity Enduro (WAGE) series; from the Under 13’s Whippets to the Over 60’s Grand Master division.
WAGE events are held throughout the South West and attract a family friendly crowd keen to embrace the growing sport of mountain biking.
