The Margaret River Gallery will challenge the traditional nature of art galleries this month with the launch of a series of events for the Margaret River Region Open Studios program.
Artist and Margaret River Gallery director Salli Coppin said ‘Lounging with the Artists’ would provide art lovers and artists alike to meet and enjoy a relaxed encounter with the art world.
“It’s a way for people to interact with local artists, and it’s also a way for the artists to express themselves on a level outside their works,” she explained.
It’s a way for people to interact with local artists, and it’s also a way for the artists to express themselves on a level outside their works...It’s about opening up those doors between the artists and the public and providing more opportunities for that to occur.

Artists will host sessions developed around their personal interests and inspirations, with dancing, yoga, demonstrations and a few glasses of sparkling planned.
“It’s about opening up those doors between the artists and the public and providing more opportunities for that to occur.
“People can come along and experience some of our best local art, jewellery and sculpture without feeling like they need to be quiet or even know anything about art!”
Starting this Saturday April 28 with Kate Debbo who will host a talk and dancing to some of her favourite tunes, the workshops will also feature artistsDeidre Bruhn, Sarmarie Higgins, Natasha Hill and Francesco Geronazzo as well as renowned local photographer Martine Perret.
“These are all local artists who are represented by the gallery year round, and as they aren’t opening their own studios this year it’s a great chance for anyone to read an art book relax, have a coffee, view the works , and meet an artist or two.”
Lounging with the Artists opens Saturday April 28 and runs until early May, with more appearances to be announced. To stay up to date with the schedule and catch your favourite local artists visit www.margaretrivergallery.com.au or www.facebook.com/margaretrivergalleryMRG/
