The Margaret River Community Centre’s annual Winter Warmer Blanket Drive is being launched for another year, with the centre aiming to help underprivileged members of the local community by providing warm items for the coldest months in the South West.
Each year the drive collects as many good condition blankets, beanies and warm scarves as possible to be donated and distributed to locals in need.
“As you dig out your winter doonas and blankets and stock up your wood piles, spare a thought for those that are less fortunate and struggling with the cold,” said Margaret River Community Centre chairperson Sally Hays.

“Any surplus warms from your linen cupboard would be much appreciated.”
Flannel sheets are another valuable addition to the collection, with volunteers able to sew sleeping bag liners that increase warmth for those sleeping in cars.
Donations have already been received including knitted baby rugs and ex-accommodation house linen, while a growing number of knitters are working on beanies.
“We are also calling for sturdy wet weather gear in good condition - winter rains create an additional challenge for people without a fixed address,” she said.
Once donated, items are sorted and provided free of charge through the community centre. Volunteers replenish stocks daily to ensure a range of items for all needs, while those seeking specific assistance or items can speak to a community centre representative.
Items can be dropped off to the Margaret River Community Centre office between 9am and 1pm, Mondays to Fridays.
