A series of cabaret-style shows, produced by local musicians, will launch this Saturday at Stay Margaret River.
Led by musical director and pianist Ian Smith, My Colouring Book features a band of talented musicians performing well-known contemporary songs.
Vocalists Belinda Robinson, Jaime Werren, Sarah Mills and Augusta Margaret River Mail journalist Nicky Lefebvre will perform specially selected songs from each decade, starting with the 1960s to present day.
Songs originally recorded by much-loved female vocalists, such as Madonna, Amy Winehouse and Sia, will be given a new spin, thanks to arrangements by Smith and musicians Garry Larkin and Jensen Emmett.
Smith said the show paid homage to some of the music industry's most talented and respected women.
“So many of our lives have been touched by the beautiful music created by women like Dusty Springfield, Cyndi Lauper, Adele and Roberta Flack, to name just a handful,” he said.
"Selecting songs was almost impossible.
“I sent each vocalist away to create a list of songs they were keen to perform, while I also built my own list.
“Our first meeting we managed to cull something like 150 songs, and then we took a few deep breaths and kept whittling it down until we had a fantastic selection of songs across a wide range of tastes and styles."
A three-course meal will be served throughout the show, with full bar service also available.
Smith said previous shows in this format had proved popular.
“People like to have an excuse to have an evening out and combining entertainment with a great meal is what these shows are all about,” he said.
"We are really grateful to Justin Hickman and the Stay Margaret River crew - they've created a wonderful menu. Quite frankly we're a bit jealous we're not sitting in the crowd enjoying it too."
My Colouring Book will be performed on Saturday June 23 and Saturday June 30.
Tickets are $47.50 per person and can be booked at staymargaretriver.com.au/whats-on.
