The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is hosting a series of Make Your Own Bag workshops this month as part of Plastic Free July.
Participants will learn to make their own bags from recycled material and take their creation home with them.
The bag workshops will be facilitated by Boomerang Bag supporter Nirala Hunt.
All materials will be provided, although you are welcome to bring along your own fabric, to add a personal touch to your bag.
Workshop dates:
Tuesday 10 July 2018, 5:30pm – 7:30pm, Black Sheep Deli, Cowaramup
Saturday 14 July, 9am – 12pm – Margaret River Education Campus
Tuesday 24 July 11:30am – 2:30pm, Augusta Community Resource Centre
Shire Waste Education and Project Officer Jackie Dickson encourages all residents to come along to the workshops and learn a new skill.
“It would have been easy to provide a couple of reuseable bags for ratepayers to cope with the light-weight bag ban,“ she said
“The workshops are far more valuable as people can learn new skills, be involved in the community and take home something that will have personal value to them."
The workshops have been scheduled to coincide with Plastic Free July and the state wide light-weight plastic bag ban.
Bookings aren't required. Workshops are drop-in format with each bag taking between 15 minutes and 30 minutes to sew.
