Western Power is continuing to restore power to homes and businesses on Monday morning following a powerful storm front that crossed the coast Sunday night.
The storm produced powerful winds and heavy rains that have uprooted trees and blown branches and other debris in to the network causing hazards and outages spread across the network.
A Western Power spokesperson said at the peak of the storm there were more than 8,500 customers impacted by outages.
They said Emergency Response crews have attended reported hazards throughout the night to ensure they were safe which has allowed network operations teams to restore power to nearly 5,000 homes.
There is still about 2,500 customers without power with the most impacted areas being Margaret River, Rosa Brook, Boyup Brook and Bridgetown.
Western Power is mobilising extra crews this morning to help repair any damage that could not be repaired overnight.
The spokesperson said because of the heavy rains that have fallen associated with this front some areas in the Great Southern and South West would be difficult to access for off-road patrols and may delay restoration times for some customers.
“It is important to remember that if anyone sees any damage to the network like a fallen powerline or damaged pole they should stay at least eight metres away and call Western Power immediately on 13 13 51,” they said.
If it is a life-threatening emergency call 000 first.
