Ahoy there, maties!
Margaret River Montessori School students celebrated 2018 Book Week with activities held every day over the week recognising this year’s theme, Find Your Treasure.
The school library was decked out as a pirate ship for the week, and students enjoyed The Great Book Swap to raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Fund before a whole-school dress up day on the Friday, including staff who heartily embraced the swashbuckling theme.
Using a real treasure map, each class deciphered pirate clues to locate a teacher waiting to read them a story in a secret, sun-filled location around the school.
Principal Lisa Fenton said the Montessori approach to reading and writing used a distinct set of practices to nurture a positive, natural learning experience.
“The Montessori curriculum is thoughtfully built around teaching children the many elements of reading one by one, in a way accessible to and enjoyable by a child,” she said.
