A touch of creole came to Margaret River Independent School on the weekend when it held its biennial Open Day.
The theme this year was Caribbean Carnivale in recognition of MRIS’s French Language Program.
The sun was shining as hundreds of people enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Students and teachers dressed in colourful attire and hosted free craft activities in each classroom as part of the celebrations.
The very popular Rasta Jazz featuring David Rastrick performed, while the school’s resident Frog Doctor, Johnny Prefumo conducted workshops about the school’s pitfall trapping program, and Dance and Drama teacher Sky River presented a puppet show featuring a Caribbean folktale.
There was a Robotics display, French story-telling, children’s games, Caribbean-style dancing with Rita, a Pirate Bouncy Castle, face-painting, market stalls, student-led tours on the Nyindamurra Nature Trail as well as a delicious French-Carribean style menu on offer.
