The team at the Margaret River Community Centre for Children arrived at work last week to discover that a large shade sail covering the centre’s play area had been stolen overnight.
Valued at over $5000, the 10 metre x 8 metre green shade sail was stolen sometime between Wednesday evening, January 2 and the morning of Thursday, January 3.
Lynda Green, coordinator of the Community Centre for Children, said the person or persons responsible would have planned to remove the sail with the installation of the structure leaving it difficult to remove without the correct tools.
“Whoever came and took the sail was prepared – it was anchored to six posts and well out of reach,” Ms Green said.
“The theft means that children have lost the bulk of their outdoor shade area, which at this time of year has a massive impact on their day,” she said.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Margaret River Police on 9757 2222.
