The Margaret River Ocean Swim, supported by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and the White Elephant Beach Cafe is on again at Gnarabup Beach on Saturday January 19.
The race starts at 8am and is dubbed the 'friendly ocean swim'.
Swim coordinator Charlotte O’Beirne said the event was an an ideal warm up for those competing in the Busselton Jetty Swim and a gentle introduction to the world of ocean swim events for those new to the sport.
“For many people swimming in the ocean can seem daunting, no matter how good a swimmer they are and this event aims to provide a fun and friendly environment to take the plunge and participate in an ocean swim,” she said.
“Flippers, wetsuits, and snorkels are all allowed if they provide people with the support they think they need to give it a go. Swimming along side friends and even your kids is very much encouraged.”
“There will be a contingent of swimming speedsters zooming towards the finish aiming to take line honours but at the Margaret River Ocean Swim simply participating gives you a great chance of bringing home a prize.”
Thanks to many local businesses there are prizes for finishing closest to your nominated time for the 1km event and a special team prize, ‘The Gnarabup Cup’. This prize is awarded to the team with the lowest aggregate time of their five best swimmers, who are closest to their nominated time. (There is no limit to the amount of swimmers you can have in your team)
